Motorists comply with operation recall

Since the inception of the Operation Recall in April 2009 and subsequent to the media briefing by MEC for Gauteng Community Safety, MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu, the department working in collaboration with municipalities and Gauteng Department of Transport witnessed a significant increase in compliance with regards to the unlicensed vehicles.

To date the population of unlicensed vehicles has declined by 2 335. A total number of 2 150 notices were issued to defaulters regarding the non-compliance as well indicating the amount owned and directing them to relevant registry authority where payments could be made and vehicle taken for roadworthiness. The department is confident of bringing down the number of unroadworthy vehicles in our province.

The department also appreciates and thanks the efforts of motorists who are co-operating with the operation. This can only contribute to make our roads safer.

Motorists are urged to continue heeding this call as phase two of the project will now carry a R500 fine, by visiting the departmental website (http://www.gautsafety.gpg.gov.za).
