A Jamestown motorist was yesterday found guilty and sentenced on charges of attempting to bribe a traffic officer. Two Aliwal North based officers Mr Slinger and Mr Makhele arrested the accused when he attempted to bribe the officer who was trying to ticket him with a fifty rand note.
The officer had reprimanded the accused for overloading the vehicle driven and was about to issue the culprit with a fine when the incident occurred. The accused was yesterday found guilty of the charge and was sentenced to 5 months in prison or a fine of R1 000.00 which was suspended for 3 years
Officers Slinger and Makhele have been lauded for their outstanding work in an environment where traffic officers are exposed to these types of challenges and temptations.
