Motorist arrested for drunken driving after driving into a robot in Mahikeng

A thirty-seven year old driver was arrested after his vehicle drove over a kerb before hitting a robot at a four way stop intersection next to Mahikeng Industrial area on Friday morning. A secondary crash also brought down the lamp post as well. The driver of a Toyota Tazz sedan who was alone in his vehicle allegedly fled from the scene of the accident on foot.

The accident occurred at the Nelson Mandela-Aerodrome drives intersection next to Dada Motors at around 11:30 am. Police traced him to the nearby government offices from where he had allegedly called friends to rush  to the scene of the accident to assist him sort the mess that he had got himself into and arrested him .

Mohono has vowed that “Whosoever crosses the line of sobriety during this festive
season and drives a vehicle is a menace to other road users and will face the full wrath of the law.” Sixty one drunken drivers have thus far been arrested in the province since the launch of the Make Roads Safe/Arrive Alive Festive Season Campaign.  

The arrested motorist is expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrates Court on
Tuesday to answer to charges of drunken driving, reckless and or negligent driving.
