Motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma proposed by opposition parties not on the National Assembly programme

The National Assembly (NA) Programme Committee at its regular weekly meeting today was unable to reach consensus on the programming of a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, proposed by the leader of opposition, Ms Lindiwe Mazibuko.

Following extensive deliberations where all parties expressed and argued for their positions in relation to the motion, it became clear that the two positions, to schedule or not to schedule the motion, were irreconcilable.

Speaker of the NA, Mr Max Sisulu, as chairperson of the committee, announced in the meeting that the motion could not be programmed as the committee had been unable to agree on the matter. The committee reaches its decisions regarding the programme by consensus.
