The North West Department of Health has increased the number of Community Caregivers from to 5 330 to 6 439. This has resulted in over 65 000 community members benefiting from the Home Based Care (HCBC) services, compared to 53 000 in 2011.
The number of PLHIV (People Living with HIV) support groups has been expanded from 90 to 150.
The availability of anti-retroviral and TB drugs has consistently been at 96% - 100% since the Department took control of the medical depot in 2011.
The Department is in the process of strengthening the management of the Medical Depot by filling vacant management and operational posts.
An IT service provider to address challenges which have been experienced with the inventory management system of the depot has been appointed.
A total of 290 Basic Antenatal Care (BANC) sites from 169 in December
2011 are now implementing BANC. The Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) Programme is strengthened, and all pregnant women are being encouraged to know their HIV status, by participating in the HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) programme, in order to increase access to treatment and care.
