A baby is the most precious gift in life. The gift is made special when the baby is born on the first day of the year.
Fifty seven babies (57) were born in 7 hospitals in the province by midday today.
Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic hospital delivered 15 babies (6 boys and 9 girls), followed by Mamelodi Hospital with 11 babies (5 boys, 6 girls). Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital with 10 babies (5 girls and 5 boys) born. Kalafong (3 boys and 4 girls) and Yusuf Dadoo (4 boys and 3 girls) Hospitals both had 7 deliveries each.
Bertha Gxowa had 4 (1 boy and 3 girls) babies born and the lowest number of babies born at were at Steve Biko Academic Hospital with 3 babies (2 girls and 1 boy).
“We congratulate all the mothers that gave birth today and also encourage them to take good care of their babies and ensure that they receive the necessary immunisation to prevent ailments affecting mostly children, said MEC Hope Papo.
