Mokonyane saddened by the passing of journalist Patrick Hlahla

Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, has expressed the province's sorrow at the news of the untimely death of journalist and former National Press Club chairman, Patrick Hlahla.

Mokonyane described Hlahla's death as a blow to the country's journalism fraternity.

"On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, let me pass our heartfelt condolences to the Hlahla family, friends and the entire news fraternity. We would like to urge them to remain strong during this difficult time," she said.

Hlahla, 58, died after collapsing at his home on Sunday morning.

Mokonyane noted that Hlahla, an award-winning journalist, would be mostly remembered as a talented journalist who did a sterling job in covering the metro beat at the Pretoria News; a job he did for over a decade. He also played a major role in mentoring young journalists.

Hlahla is survived by his wife and three children.

May his soul rest in peace!
