Mohono to engage Minister of Police as Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) demands arrest of Moss Phakoe's killers

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Desbo Mohono has called on Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the North West to exercise patience, while she consults the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa on intervention to expedite investigations into the case of the alleged assassination of Rustenburg Councillor and COSATU leader Moss Phakoe.

MEC Mohono was addressing a march after receiving a Memorandum from COSATU in Rustenburg last Friday. Among others COSATU is protesting against slow progress in the investigations into Phakoe’s death.

Mohono called on COSATU to exercise patience while investigations into Phakoe’s murder are continuing. She said that the case is one of the most intricate and delicate under investigation by SAPS.

She committed to request the minister that the case be prioritised and concluded as soon as possible, so that the family and those who were close to Phakoe could find closure.

The late Moss Phakoe was shot two year ago as he arrived at his home in Rustenburg North after he had handed over documents exposing corruption in Rustenburg Local Municipality to Minister of Corporative Governance and Traditional leaders, Sicelo Shiceka.

Though North West police had offered a R250 000 rewards to anyone with information leading to the arrest, no one has been arrested thus far.
