North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has declared her commitment to youth development and that that her department is obliged to do its level best to address the needs of young people to ensure their empowerment and advancement for them as beneficiaries of Human Settlements Vision 2030 to realise its full benefits.
Speaking after the successful two-day summit held last week in Durban, MEC Mohono said her department will demonstrate the seriousness of the summit by ensuring the implementation of resolutions taken.
"Mobilisation of young people to participate in the human settlements delivery value chain and provision of a structured engagement in the broader 2030 Human Settlements vision is key,” she emphasised.
She said that dissemination of information to young people on economic opportunities, available information on programmes supporting the skills development in Human Settlements are priority.
“First and foremost for us to achieve resolutions taken there, we need to extend the similar summit at the provincial level and further develop a database of young people and align them to the required human settlements programmes,” said Mohono.
As part of resolution taken during the summit, provinces are expected to rollout and sustain youth incubator programmes beyond construction to the full human developments development value chain, engage private farmers and business people to play their role in rural upliftment.
In an effort to continue its vigorous fight against fraud and corruption, the department is further required to promote young people for active involvement in whistle blowing and further strengthen the protection of whistle blowers.
