Mohono condemns fraud within her department

The Department of Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison is investigating several cases of fraud and corruption within some of its testing centers and vehicle testing stations. The department is investigating cases where 73 learners licenses were fraudulently issued and road worthy certificates issued even when the examiners were on leave.

According to the department, 73 learner’s driver’s licenses were issued fraudulently in Rustenburg Driver Learners testing center. A cashier is said to have been dismissed following an internal investigation and a criminal case is still under investigation by the Commercial Crime Unit. The department has already nullified the said fraudulently issued learners license, and further advice those who acquired them illegally to go the normal procedural way.

In Vryburg Testing Station, two vehicles were issued with a roadworthy certificate while the Examiner was on leave. The department is further investigating a similar case in the Delareyville Vehicle Station, where 14 vehicles were also issued with roadworthy certificate while the examiner was on leave and 22 roadworthy certificates issued while vehicles were never tested. One examiner from Vryburg and two from Delareyville have been suspended pending criminal cases investigations by the special Investigating Unit and Commercial Crime Unit.

Meanwhile MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison Desbo Mohono has condemned the said fraud with a stern warning to all those who are implicated. “As government we will continue to condemn fraud and corruption within the public service and anywhere else in this country, investigation will be undertaken and all those who will be found guilty will be dealt with accordingly” said MEC Mohono.

She further stated that the lives of innocent people cannot and must not be compromised by such hideous acts and people who want to enrich themselves with government resources. “I will make sure that serious and tough measures are taken against those found guilty post investigations”, said Mohono.
