Mohono behind Premier Modiselle’s cleaning campaign

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Desbo Mohono has expressed her gratitude and appreciation to officials of her department for having heeded Premier Modiselle’s call to participate in the first provincial massive cleaning campaign.

The campaign followed the recent EXCO resolution that the Premier, MEC’s, Head of Department (HOD) and public servants, in co-operation with the Mafikeng Local Municipality, should embark on a massive cleaning campaign. About fifteen sites were identified around Mafikeng for cleaning as hundreds of public servants and municipal officials were shared in different groups. The campaign will further be extended to other districts of the province.

MEC Mohono said Premier Modiselle’s call was of paramount significance and must be heeded by all public servants and citizens of goodwill. She said that this campaign will ensure that the people of the province live in a healthy and habitable environment.

“We are encouraged by the enthusiastic response from the majority of public servants and their selfless participation in cleaning their own city. This augers well for future campaigns”, said Mohono.

Mohono said that the cleaning campaign was consistent with the objectives of the sanitation and hygiene week. She said the campaign was a fitting culmination of sanitation and hygiene week where her officials were raising awareness throughout the province on sanitation, health and hygiene matters. In particular, the focus was on cleanliness and served to encourage communities to live in hygienic environments.

“My department is working tirelessly to create habitable human settlements for all our people across the province. However, working alone our department will not succeed in this critical task” said Mohono. She said with the visionary leadership of the Premier and the Executive Council, she was confident that that this dream was achievable.

“A clean environment restores people’s dignity. Working together we can do more to keep our city clean,” concluded Mohono.
