Premier Maureen Modiselle has congratulated the government and people of the Northern Cape for hosting the 50 days countdown spectacle in Kimberley, the last official FIFA event before the official kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
“It is pleasing to see our sister province stage one of the most memorable events that has come with our country’s triumph to stage the world’s biggest sporting event, the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. The people of North West province share with you the joy to host the cream of global soccer dignitaries. This event alone will be remembered as history in the making as you will also host the first ever winners of the coveted Soccer World Cup, Uruguay during the duration of the tournament.
As neighbouring provinces together we share the rare opportunity to directly or indirectly benefit in the legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Our rich history and unique culture is an opportunity to promote tourism and has a potential to attract visitors beyond 2010. We share with you the common goal to show the world that South Africa and its rainbow nation, is indeed a formidable force to be reckoned with in the global village and is a stage to host world events.
