Modiselle appeals to road users – use our roads responsibly!

North West Premier, Maureen Modiselle, has reiterated her call to all road users to consider their safety and the safety of fellow road users. The Premier’s call follows yesterday’s tragic accident which claimed five lives near Ottoshoop between Mafikeng and Zeerust.

"The festive season is meant to bring happiness and joy to all of us. Unfortunately, it has already brought grief, pain and sorrow to many families," said Modiselle.

"I am making a plea to all road users -drivers and pedestrians - to exercise extreme care on our roads and to obey the rules of the road." Modiselle said that all road users must take responsibility for their own safety. She also urged passengers to refuse to be driven by a drunken driver. "In this way passengers will be taking responsibility for their own safety," she said.

Modiselle's message to all road users is that they must obey the speed limit, respect all traffic rules, take rest at regular intervals, ensure their cars are roadworthy before getting onto the road and by not drinking and driving.

She said that if all road users were to exercise the necessary caution and respect to fellow road users, the current carnage on our roads will be reduced and eventually halted.
