Ministry welcomes sentencing of Cape serial rapist

The Ministry of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities welcome the appropriate heavy sentence imposed on convicted serial rapist Tsediso Letsoenya by the Cape High Court today.

Letsoenya was given five life sentences and an additional 243 years in jail for charges that included 28 counts of rape, indecent assault and aggravated robbery.

We believe that this sentence will send a strong message to all those who may be involved in the incidents of rape and sexual assault that there are severe consequences for inflicting pain on women.

The Ministry would like to thank the investigating and prosecution teams for the hard work that led to the arrest, successful prosecution and conviction of Letsoenya on all the charges.

Our criminal justice system is responding to the challenges of crime in the country and this government is even more committed to deal with cases of rape and sexual violence against women and children.
