The Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans regrets to announce the names of eight South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members who passed away following a vehicle accident near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday 27 November 2009. The vehicle carrying fifteen members of 1 Medical Battalion Group based in Durban, was travelling from Pretoria to Durban when it was involved in an accident.
The deceased are:
* Staff Sergeant Moferefere Daniel Maseme (46) from Newlands East is survived by his wife and four children
* Sergeant Thulisiwe Thobile Sitshele (31) from Lamontville is survived by her mother, two children and two brothers.
* Sergeant Cynthia Phindile Nsele (31) from Kranskop is survived by her mother, five sisters and three brothers
* Corporal Zinhle Brightness Nokubonga Mbhele (28) from Isipingo is survived by her parents, two children, two sisters and a brother.
* Private Gladness Nomvula Msomi (33) from Chesterville is survived by her parents, two sisters and a brother
* Private Mziwenkosi Wellington Nxele (26) from Donnybrook is survived by his three sisters and a brother
* Private Sindiswa Cytronella Mkhize (35) from Clayfied Phoenix is survived by her parents, two children, sister and a brother
* Private Noncebo Angel Ngcobo (30) from Ntuzuma is survived by her mother, child and four brothers.

Funerals with full military honours
Members listed bellow will be laid to rest with full military honours on Sunday 6 December 2009 at Chesterville Cemetry at 10h00 after a church service which will be held at Durban Light Infantry Hall (DLI), no. 5 DLI Avenue, Greyville, Durban.

Memorial
A memorial service for all deceased SANDF members will be held at St Anne’s Catholic Church, 585 Randles Road, Sydenham, Durban on Thursday 3 December 2009. The memorial service will commence at 09h30 and will be addressed by the Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thabang Makwetla.
