The Ministry calls for management and SRC in UKZN to go back to the table

The Ministry of Higher Education and Training department has noted the outbreak of a strike in the University of KwaZulu-Natal and that this has degenerated into damage to property. The Ministry further note that there were initial engagements between management and SRC with regard to matters that inspired differences.

We are calling for the management to convene students leadership to resume engagements and no party must withdraw until a solution is found. It is at the best interest of the management as it does for the students that the priority is given to the normalisation of the academic process in the interest of dialogue. At no point the strike action can resolve issues. Premium must be placed on the talks.

The Ministry condemns in the strongest terms the criminal acts of damaging the University property. No amount of anger and frustration can justify the act that vandalizes public property that belongs to the future generations of students.
