The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs put together a team of officials to look at a variety of service delivery complaints raised by community representative and chiefs in the Malamulele area. The team held consultative meetings with representatives from different villages from 24 to 25 October 2012 to listen to their grievances and proposed solutions.
The meetings were attended by various structures including faith and traditional leaders, women organisations, political parties and youth organisations.
Amongst other things, community representatives tabled a memorandum which they had previously tabled to the Demarcation Board. The central issue raised in the memorandum was the desire by the community of Malamulele to have their own municipality.
On Sunday, 28 October 2012, Minister Richard Baloyi met community representatives of Malamulele who were elected by the community to lead a campaign that would ensure that Malamulele is awarded the status of a local municipality and experiences improved service delivery.
The community leaders agreed to continually engage with government with the view to improving service delivery and strengthening community participation in the area.
