The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize has sent condolences on the passing of Ikosi Amos Mkhuzelwa Mahlangu of Kwagga “B”, one of the founder members of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (CONTRALESA).

Dr Mkhize said: “We learnt with deep shock and about the passing away of Ikosi Mahlangu.

”As a founding member of Contralesa which was formed in 1987, Ikosi Amos Mahlangu leaves behind an indelible legacy, through the enormous contribution that he made in the anti-apartheid struggle in the country,” said the Minister.

Contralesa was formed to unite traditional leaders in fighting the Bantustan system created by the apartheid government, and to work in alliance with the broader democratic front in the struggle for a free and democratic South Africa. Ikosi Mahlangu led his people ably during this time, including in the years of democracy and freedom.
