Mr Senzeni Zokwana, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has taken note of the media reports that have been circulating in the public domain for the past couple of days. The Minister wishes to state that he is not in ownership of a farm but has a herd of cattle.
Minister Zokwana is committed to the sectoral determination of the farm worker sector as stipulated in terms of Section 56 (1) of the Basic Condition of Employment Act, No. 75 of 1997 and as announced by the Minister of Labour in 2013.
The Minister commits himself to leading the sector by example and encourages all farm owners to comply with the minimum wage as stipulated by the sectoral determination committee.
