Minister Kodwa on another historic win by the Proteas at the 2023 Cricket World Cup

Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Mr Zizi Kodwa congratulates South Africa’s national men’s cricket team, the Proteas, on another historic win at the 2023 Cricket World Cup. This follows the Proteas defeating New Zealand by 190 runs on Wednesday, 1 November 2023, to continue their impressive march in the Cricket World Cup taking place in India.

Minister Kodwa says, “The Proteas have done us proud with their performances at the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Just as the Proteas and the Springboks both beat England in this year’s men’s Cricket and Rugby World Cups, the Proteas have ensured another double by beating New Zealand, as the Springboks did in the Rugby World Cup.”

Minister Kodwa adds, “On Friday at the Rugby World Cup trophy tour with the Springboks in Cape Town, I will be launching Proteas Fridays. I encourage South Africans to wear their Proteas shirts and show support to the Proteas team, who have been raising the country’s flag high in the Cricket World Cup.”

The Minister says, “I wish the Proteas all the best in the rest of the Cricket World Cup. They have done very well to get themselves where they are in the tournament. All 62 million South Africans are behind you, Proteas!”

The Proteas Men play their next match against hosts India on Sunday, 5 November 2023.
