Minister Zizi Kodwa announces approval of Theatre and Dance Policy by Cabinet

Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Mr Zizi Kodwa has announced the approval of the Theatre and Dance Policy by the South African Cabinet. This policy aims to support South Africa’s Theatre and Dance sector with clear policy recommendations.

The vision of the Theatre and Dance Policy is to nurture, support and celebrate South Africa's rich and diverse theatre and dance forms, thus enabling them to contribute to human, social, economic development. The policy also aims to support the well-being of all in the theatre and dance sector.

Minister Kodwa says, “The Theatre and Dance Policy is a critical contribution towards transforming and repositioning South Africa’s Theatre and Dance landscape. It intends to breathe new energy into our sectors to build a healthy, more stable, and productive industry.”

Minister Kodwa adds, “The policy serves as a vital expression of cultural and political diplomacy, to promote South African identity, as well as the inventiveness and innovation of local artists to participate and trade in the international cultural and creative economy.”

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture invites all tiers of Government, Theatre and Dance Stakeholders, Cultural Institutions, Community Arts Centres, Institutions of Higher Learning, Sector based organizations, private sector, and other related organizations to work collaboratively during policy implementation and review phases. The approved policy shall be available on the Departmental website: www.dsac.gov.za.
