The allegations that the Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana owes any money to Parliament as a result of misuse of Parliament’s travel vouchers are false.
At the time when these allegations initially surfaced, Minister Xingwana approached Parliament to establish facts with the aim of clearing these false claims. With no much progress, Minister Xingwana further approached the travel agency itself.
She was ultimately told that there was no information suggesting misuse of vouchers and there was no money owed by her to the agency and/or Parliament. Minister Xingwana has never received any letter of demand from the travel agency or Parliament.
When approached by the media this week for comments, the office of the Minister also enquired from Parliament to get any details substantiating the amount of R54 800 that is claimed to be owed by the Minister. To date, nothing has been forthcoming.
Minister Xingwana firmly denies these allegations and is committed to ensure that her name is cleared of these false claims.
