Minister Xingwana condemns recent spate of child murders

The Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana has expressed her outrage and sadness at the spate of recent child murders in the country.

"The barbaric actions of child abusers and murderers have no place in our democratic society", said Minister Xingwana.

Minister Xingwana said that her department will continue to work with the law-enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to rid our society of the scourge of child abuse. "The net is closing in on them and the long arm of the law will finally catch up with them".

By giving women and child abusers harsher sentences, our courts are sending a message to these abusers that their actions will not be tolerated.

The Minister congratulated the South African Police Service for re-launching the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Units. "Child murderers will have no place to hide as more and more of them will continue to face the full might of the law".

She expressed confidence these police units will help reduce cases of child abuse and domestic violence.

The Minister reiterated her appeal to members of the community to work with the police and law enforcement agencies to ensure that these criminals are uprooted from society.
