The Minister for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana wishes the South African national women’s soccer team, Banyana Banyana, all the best as they face Nigeria in the 2010 Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Women Championship tomorrow.
“We congratulate Banyana Banyana for their 2 to 1 win against Tanzania on Sunday. They represented us well in the opening game and made us all proud.
“Nigeria is most probably the toughest challenge yet for our team in the African Women Championship. However, we are confident that our girls will take them on and make all of us proud as the host nation,” said Minister Xingwana.
She called on all South Africans to support Banyana Banyana throughout this tournament. “Nigeria might have won this tournament many times but this is our turn. Let us use our home advantage and go all out to support our girls as we did with Bafana Bafana during the World Cup.
“I wish the girls and the coach all the best as they prepare for this game. The whole of South Africa should rally behind them. Banyana Banyana has all the qualities of winning this tournament and represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany next year,” said Minister Xingwana.
The two finalists from the African Women's Championship will represent Africa at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
