The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Mrs. Edna Molewa MP, has today, Monday, 2 April 2012, welcomed the plea and sentence in the matter involving Anker Coal Mineral Holdings. “This plea and sentence agreement is a victory for the protection of our wetlands and other water resources for present and future generations” said Minister Molewa speaking from her office in Pretoria.
“The fact that the accused pleaded guilty bears testament to the tireless efforts of our department and that of our sister department of Minerals in working together in a spirit of co‐operative governance to achieve a common goal of protection of our environment”. She added.
She also said that this sends a clear message that environmental degradation will not be tolerated and that as custodian of the environment and water resources is pleased with the plea and sentence agreement.
