Minister of Transport urges motorists and pedestrians to Cross-Alive in Ficksburg

Having officially launched the 2014 Easter Road Safety Campaign on 10 April, Transport Minister, Honourable Dipuo Peters will continue the campaign to the Free State province in Ficksburg on the border of the Republic of Lesotho.

With the expected increase in traffic volumes during Easter period, Minister Peters will conduct a Cross-Alive Road Safety Campaign with the Cross Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA), an entity of the Department of Transport responsible for cross-border road activities.

The campaign will be a multi stakeholder road safety activation with the aim of conducting inspections on vehicles that will be traveling along the Free State border routes which include Ficksburg, Maseru, Fouriesburg and Wepener Border Posts.

As part of the proceedings for the day, the Minister will also address the community of Meqheleng about the importance of road safety at the Ficksburg Royal Show grounds. The key message that the Minister will be sharing with the community will include the importance of traveling in roadworthy vehicles, the importance of wearing seatbelts at all the times and adhering to all the rule of the road.

From 10h00 to 10h30 the Minister, entourage, the media, and officials, led by the Operation Commander will leave the Sestsoto Municipality Chamber for a quick visit to the Ficksburg Port of Entry. The Port of Entry (POE) is about 10 kilometres from the Setsoto Municipality.

From 10h45 to 11h15 the Minister, entourage and media will spend about 30minutes at the C-BRTA led joint Operation, and Health and Wellness Campaign.  From the Operation the Minister and entourage will leave for the Ficksburg Show Ground where the main event will take place.

From 11h30 to 13h30 the main event and formal proceedings at the Ficksburg Show Ground
