Department Of Cooperative Governance continues to improve the performance ofCWP

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Thembi Nkadimeng has welcomed the work done to ensure an effective and efficient functioning Community Works Programme (CWP).

The transition process from using Implementing Agents to insourcing of the service in the department is on track and is geared to improve the performance of CWP.

The department has with effect from 01 July 2023, adjusted the stipend for all CWP participants including supervisors. The participants have seen an increase of R80 per month, while supervisors received an increase of R100 per month.

As CWP also supports participant’s existing livelihood plans by offering a basic level of income security, the increases of the stipend will go a long way to assist participants to care for themselves and their families.

The department will continue to pay stipend on the 25th of each month. In case there are challenges with payments of stipends, the payments will be processed before end of the month. The site management staff will continue receiving their salaries on the last day of each month.

The department is continuing to work speedily to ensure that all participants are registered. Currently, contracting of all provincial, district and site staff has been completed as their contracts expire on 31 July 2023.

We encourage participants not to change banking details due to long banking verification process which might result in payments delays.

“We are committed to ensuring that CWP continues to provide an employment safety net and thus providing a predictable income stream for all the over 200 000 participants.
