Minister Thembi Nkadimeng has today addressed the 44th King Silamba Commemoration and Cultural Festival hosted by the Ndebele Kingdom.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nkadimeng urged for more partnerships between government, the private sector, and Royal leaders towards addressing the plight of communities, including young people. She indicated that, in this regard, government’s programme called the National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC), coordinated by the Department of Agriculture becomes critical.
Furthermore, the Minister lauded President Ramaphosa’s establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Task Team (IMTT) dedicated to addressing issues pertinent to traditional leadership. By facilitating direct engagement with Kings and Queens, the IMTT aims to strengthen ties between the government and traditional institutions, recognizing their invaluable contributions to nation-building.
In addressing the alarming incidence of violence against traditional leaders, Minister Nkadimeng affirmed COGTA’s readiness to collaborate with traditional authorities in promoting community safety and well-being.
As the nation commemorates Human Rights Month, Minister Nkadimeng called upon those in attendance to honor the legacy of those who fought for liberation, including traditional leaders who served as beacons of resilience and solidarity. Emphasizing the importance of the Bill of Rights enshrined in the Constitution, she urged collective efforts to uphold and defend human rights for all South Africans.
