The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services Siyabonga Cwele has extended the closing date for written inputs to the ICT Policy Review Discussion Paper containing policy options to 30 January 2015.

The decision follows numerous requests from the public to move the closing date beyond the 15 January 2015 deadline to allow them to make substantial inputs. "We view it as very important that the public is party to an inclusive process to modernize our ICT landscape. We welcome the continued participation and interests expressed by South Africans. We need all South Africans to actively participate in this process because technology, in all its facets, is increasingly impacting our lives in this fast digitizing world," said Cwele.

Minister Cwele said the extension allows for the inclusion of input that is vital to the finalisation of the White Paper on ICT Policy early next year.

The options paper has seven chapters providing wide-ranging policy options on infrastructure and services, digital society, ICT industry growth, audio and audio-visual services and institutional frameworks.

The Discussion Paper can be accessed.

Written responses to the Discussion Paper must reach the department by no later than 30 January 2015.

The responses can be sent to: tmooketsi@dtps.gov.za
