Minister Chikunga saddened by the death of eleven people in the EC

The Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga is deeply saddened by the crash in the Eastern Cape, which claimed 11 lives.

The crash occurred on Sunday, 4 June 2023 at approximately 13:15 on the R61 at Dlibona location between Flagstaff and Lusikisiki.

“Each day we witness such a tragedy where young lives are lost in this manner, our nation gets poorer and our efforts to arrest the carnage on our roads become that much harder. All road users must play their part in ensuring that they behave in a manner that ensures safety of others who share the space.”  Said Minster Chikunga.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will investigate the root cause of the crash and the Minister has directed that she be favoured with the preliminatry report to that effect.

Minister Chikunga has conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and wishes those injured a speedy and full recovery.

The Minister has committed to work with relevant authorities such as the Road Accident Fund (RAF) to provide the necessary support the affected families.
