The Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Sindisiwe Chikunga, is leading South African delegations to the United Nations Headquarters in New York to present the country’s Beijing+30 report on the progress made on the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action from 2019 to 2024.
The South African Beijing+30 report broadly reflects on the progress made towards Gender Equality from 2019-2024, using Data, Statistics and Trends. The report also covers in detail the 12 critical areas of concern in the Beijing Platform of Action, such as Women and Poverty, Education and Training, Women Health, Violence against women, women and armed conflict, women and economy, women in power and decision-making, Human Rights of women, Women and the Media, Women and the Environment and The Girl Child. The focus of the report will look at the priorities, achievements, challenges and gaps while also demonstrating and highlighting the emerging and future priorities.
South Africa will join the global community in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which coincides with South Africa’s presidency of the G20, where Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality are a priority.
The Minister Chikunga is joined by the Minister of Social Development, Ms. Nokuzola Tolashe, the Deputy Minister of Department of Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule and the Deputy Minister of Forestry; Fisheries and Environment, Ms. Bernice Swarts. Additionally, the following MEC’s forms part of the delegations who will provide provincial updates on the South Africa progress in areas such Education; Health, and Social Protection MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development KwaZulu- Natal, MEC Social Development, MEC Sport, Arts and Culture Northern Cape and the MEC Department of Social Development in Mpumalanga.
