Pretoria: The Ministry in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities is shocked by the sudden passing of the renowned political journalist Tshidi Madia today, 27 August 2025, known for her work with Prime Media (EWN and Radio 702). In a joint statement, both Minister Chikunga and Deputy Minister Letsike express their condolences and wish the Madia family and the collective media fraternity comfort during this difficult period.
During her lifetime as a political reporter, Madia has been able to make use of the media as a powerful channel of information in society, helping to reinforce social mores and behaviours, and mobilise citizens to take progressive actions.
The Eyewitness News Associate Political Editor is known for her insightful political coverage and dedication to storytelling. Madia spent more than ten years working in South African media, known for her energetic reporting and her work on projects such as Politricking with Tshidi Madia.
“It is our collective view that young women in the media or profession of journalism should emulate the brilliance, courage and integrity which were standards Ms Tshidi Madia crowned her life with,” said Minister Chikunga.
We bid a sad farewell to a woman of extraordinary resilience, who rose above her circumstances until her pinnacle of success. On behalf of the Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, I convey my deepest condolences to the family and friends.
