Minister Sicelo Shiceka visits King Mabhoko III of amaNdebele aKwa Ndzudza

Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sicelo Shiceka and the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs of Mpumalanga, Mr Madala Masuku, today visited King Mabhoko III of AmaNdebele aKwa Ndzudza. They were accompanied by the Mayor Councillor VV Nkosi, Provincial Chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders Ikosi SE Mahlangu and the Chairperson of Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims Mr B J Tolo. The aim of the visit was to discuss issues of service delivery and governance.

When meeting King Mabhoko III, Minister Shiceka, emphasised that it was important for the king to promote peace, unity, social cohesion, development and national building.

The minister also urged the community of AmaNdebele akwa Ndzudza to guard against greed and corruption.

He further added that kings must ensure that they stay above politics and resolve disputes without any mishaps. “They must ensure that there is nobody in their areas of jurisdiction who sleeps without food, shelter, water, electricity, sanitation and that no child is prevented from attending schools as a result of being poor,” said Minister Shiceka.

Minister Shiceka used the occasion to officially recognise King Mabhoko III as the King of AmaNdebele aKwa Ndzudza. King Mabhoko III is one of the kings whose kingship was recently confirmed by the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims which was recognised by President Jacob Zuma. 

The minister also called upon all Traditional Leaders to ensure that communities under their jurisdiction exercise their democratic rights by fully taking part in elections and all matters pertaining to governance and development. He encouraged traditional leaders to urge their communities to make use of voter registration today and tomorrow to register for local government elections.

King Mabhoko III expressed his appreciation that both the minister and the MEC found time to come and discuss matters of service delivery and governance with the AmaNdebele aKwa Ndzudza. The king also thanked government for issuing him with the certificate of recognition signed by the President of the Republic of South Africa, the Honourable JG Zuma.
