Minister Shabangu grants DMR further fourteen days to run tests before the introduction of the new electronic application system

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Ms Susan Shabangu, MP, has given the department a further fourteen days to run final tests before the implementation of the new online prospecting and mining rights application system.

In a statement Minister Shabangu said, “After having been presented with the latest picture in so far as the new system is concerned, I have accordingly instructed my officials to go back and re-run final tests with regard to the new system for a further fourteen days. This is being done in a bid to ensure that there is smooth implementation of the new system once the moratorium is lifted.”

In terms of the new system the public will submit applications electronically through the department’s website, and these applications will  be automatically routed to the relevant region.

Finally, the moratorium will expires at the end of the month – except Mpumalanga - will be extended accordingly through a notice that will be published in the government gazette towards the end of this week.
