Minister sends delegation to fire blazed care centre in Springs

Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, has expressed shock on the death of people at the Struitsbuild Care Centre in Springs.

As a result, the Minister has sent a delegation to the centre in a quest to establish the facts that may have led to this sad situation. The team is lead by the Deputy Director-General for Welfare Services, Dr Maria Mabetoa.

“Our view is that care centres of this nature, as homes for vulnerable groups, should be places that uphold high standards of safety. We have sent a delegation to Springs today to establish the circumstances surrounding this situation.

“Working together with our provincial counterparts, we will upon receiving a full report decide on the next action guided by the contents of that report,” she said.

The Department of Social Development will always be at the forefront of defending and protecting the rights of the vulnerable members of society, including women, children, older persons and people with disabilities.

The Minister extends her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and further wishes those injured a speedy recovery.
