Minister Ronald Lamola appoints Magistrate Nomfundo Spinuzi and Magistrate Linda Johanna Unuvar in Western Cape Province

Two women appointed to lead Western Cape Magistracy

Minister Ronald Lamola has appointed Magistrate Nomfundo Spinuzi as Regional Court President for the Western Cape Regional Division, as well as Magistrate Linda Johanna Unuvar as Chief Magistrate for the Western Cape Province.

Magistrate Nomfundo Spinuzi is with effect from 1 November 2022 and as Magistrate Linda Johanna Unuvar is with effect from 1 September 2022.

Minister Lamola made these appointments in accordance with section 10 of the Magistrate Act, 1993 ( Act No.90 of 1993), read with section 9(1) of the Magistrates’ Court Act, 1944 ( Act No. 32 of 1944) and section 174 (1) and section 174 (9) of the Constitution of Republic of South Africa.

Magistrate Spinuzi has been a Regional Magistrate at Empangeni for 9 years, she has 25 years’ legal experience as prosecutor at various levels. She holds various qualifications which include a BProc, LLB and an LLM.

Magistrate Unuvar has 32 years’ legal experience at various as prosecutor at various levels, she hold various qualifications which include BProc and LLB.

“Both these Magistrates with extensive legal experience will undoubtedly enhance the efficacy of the magistracy, furthermore their work affirms that it is possible for black women to occupy critical positions across the entire judicial office spectrum,” says Minister Lamola.
