Minister Robin Carlisle and city MAYCO member Brett Herron report back to community of 11-year old Lwandile Tongo, knocked down by an allegedly drunk driver

Robin Carlisle, the Minister of Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape and Brett Herron, the City of Cape Town’s Mayco Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater will report back to the Mfuleni community of Lwandile Tongo, the 11-year old boy knocked down and killed by an allegedly drunk driver in mid-October last year.

A little over a week after Lwandile’s death, the community invited Minister Carlisle to meet with his guardian and neighbours about what they called a ‘flawed police investigation’ of the crime scene and the events that followed the crash.

At the meeting the Minister promised he would do everything in his power to ensure the accused ‘had his day in court’ and to make the road safer.

‘Tomorrow evening we will get the community up to speed on the latest news regarding this tragic case,’ Minister Carlisle said.

Members of the media are invited to attend the report back (directions below), which will take place at the deceased boy’s home, close to the scene of the crash.
