Minister Pravin Gordhan condemns violent protests in the Vuwani area

COGTA Minister, Mr Pravin Gordhan, strongly condemns the incidents that took place in the Vuwani area over the last two days where communities have begun violently protesting against the decisions of the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB). This has involved the destruction of property and looting as well as the burning of motor vehicles. More disturbingly, some community members have been injured in the process.

The Minister has described the present protest in the Vuwani area as totally unacceptable, and calls for an immediate end to it. Further, the Minister calls for calm and stability in the area, and appeal to all stakeholders to seek to resolve the challenges through peaceful and constructive means. More importantly, he also appealed to the Traditional Leaders to help bring peace and stability in areas under their jurisdiction.

Minister Gordhan intends to meet with all the stakeholders soon to hear the concerns of the people and to consider how their concerns may be addressed.
