Minister Pandor wishes Bafana Bafana well in their opening match

Minister Naledi Pandor has wished the South African National team Bafana Bafana victory during its opening match against Mexico during the kick off of the Fifa World Cup on Friday, 11 June 2010 at Soccer City in Soweto.

Minister Pandor congratulated the “players and coach for their twelve match unbeaten streak and most notably, your historic five-nil drubbing of Guatemala on 31 May.”

“As South Africa we are filled with a profound sense of pride not only because we are the first African country to host this prestigious tournament, but also because it provides the African continent with a unique opportunity to refute all the negative perceptions that some may hold about our continent and the capabilities of its people.”

“We assure you that as you come closer to taking this bold step, each time you step onto the field each and every South African will be with you. We have no doubt in your ability to go out there and make South Africa proud,” concluded Minister Pandor.
