Minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo appoints Grant Thornton Forensic Investigators to probe Community Schemes Ombud

Grant Thornton Forensic Investigators to probe the Community Schemes Ombud Service (CSOS)

The Minister of Human Settlements Nomaindiya Mfeketo has appointed Grant Thornton Forensic Investigators to interrogate breaches in governance, allegations of financial misconduct and corruption at the Community Schemes Ombud Service.

CSOS, an entity of the Department of Human Settlements, was established in terms of the Community Schemes Ombud Service Act of 2011 to regulate the conduct of parties within community schemes and to ensure their good governance.

Following a series of damaging articles by the Mail and Guardian on the alleged shenanigans at CSOS in March 2018, Minister Mfeketo engaged the Board on a number of occasions in an attempt to get to the bottom of the matter.

“We hope that Grant Thornton, who will start with their forensic investigation tomorrow (01 October 2018) will assist us in getting the source of the challenges bedevilling the institution,” said Minister Mfeketo.

She said the full terms of reference will be revealed by Human Settlements Director-General Mbulelo Tshangana at a meeting with the Board and CSOS staff tomorrow.

The Forensic Investigations have been given two months to finalise their probe.
