Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has conveyed condolences to the families of seven people, including three high school learners, who were killed when the motor vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a train outside Rustenburg in the North West province this morning (Tuesday, 2 March 2010).
"We want to convey our condolences to the families and relatives of the seven people, including three high school learners, killed in a collision between a motor vehicle and a train outside Rustenburg in the North West Province this morning (Tuesday, 2 March 2010). We wish those injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. The Railway Safety Regulator’s (RSR) inspectors have been dispatched to investigate the level crossing collision,” said the Minister.
According to initial reports, a Toyota Venture collided with a Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) light locomotive at the level crossing at Heystekrand on the Thabazimbi line this morning (Tuesday, 2 March 2010). The TFR locomotive was not transporting any train carriages at the time of the accident.
