Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has conveyed condolences to the families of all those killed on the country’s roads during the past weekend (19 to 22 March), including seven people killed in a road crash in the Western Cape yesterday, 21 March 2010.
“We want to convey our condolences to the families and relatives of all those killed on the country’s roads over the past weekend (19 to 22 March), including seven people killed in a horrific crash on the N1 near Joostenbergvlakte in the Western Cape yesterday, 21 March 2010. We wish the injured a speedy recovery,” said the Minister.
According to initial reports, seven people were killed after their vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier and caught fire on the N1 freeway, near Joostenbergvlakte, in the Western Cape yesterday, Sunday, 21 March.
The national Department of Transport has dispatched a team of accident investigation and reconstruction specialists to assist in the investigation of this crash.
Minister Ndebele has once again called on all citizens to also do their part in reducing deaths on the roads.
“All of us have no other option but to act individually and collectively to stop this carnage on our roads. We can achieve this by simply obeying all road rules. It is time for all of us to commit to a decade of action for road safety. Together, we can do more to prevent road deaths from ravaging our communities,” said Minister Ndebele.
