Minister Ndebele on five youth killed in road crash

Transport Minister, Sibusiso Ndebele, has conveyed condolences to the families of five youth killed in a road crash in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday, 15 February 2010.

"We want to convey our condolences to the families and relatives of the five young people killed in a horrific road crash near the Marianhill Toll Plaza in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We wish the injured a speedy recovery. Officials from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) will be visiting these families to provide necessary assistance to them during their time of bereavement.

The national Department of Transport has also dispatched a team of accident investigation and reconstruction specialists to assist in the investigation of this crash,” said the minister.

According to police reports, three young women and two men were killed and a man critically injured when their car veered out of control and hit a concrete barrier on the N3 outside Durban yesterday afternoon. The six were travelling towards Pietermaritzburg and approaching the Marianhill toll plaza when the crash occurred.

Minister Ndebele has once again called on all citizens to do their part in reducing deaths on the roads.
