Minister Ndebele on death of Sicelo Mabaso

Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has conveyed condolences to the family of Sicelo Mabaso, first Chairperson of Piotrans and Chairperson of Top Six Taxi Management, following his sudden and untimely death due to natural causes yesterday (30 June 2011).

"We want to convey condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of Mr. Mabaso following his sudden and untimely death,” Mr. Ndebele said. “Mr. Mabaso has made an invaluable contribution to the taxi industry, and will certainly be missed. More recently, Mr. Mabaso played a pivotal and pioneering role towards the successful implementation of the award-winning Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the city of Johannesburg, despite various challenges encountered.

“We can still remember the excitement and emotion with which Mr. Mabaso addressed us on 7 February 2011, when we handed over the majority shareholding to taxi industry shareholders Phase 1A Bus Operating Company of the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Johannesburg. We must continue the work of Mr. Mabaso towards a better future for all.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mabaso’s family, friends as well as the Piotrans Board and staff during these difficult moments. May his soul rest in peace,” Mr. Ndebele said.
