Minister Ndebele to brief media on spectator transport and transport call centre for 2010 World Cup

Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele will brief the media on general spectator transport services as well as the national transport call centre for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

As part of its mandate to provide safe, efficient and reliable public transport for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Department of Transport appointed an Operating Management Entity (OME) to manage, operate and provide general spectator transport in safe and secure vehicles. A major component of this fleet comprises of 110 newly acquired 79-seater MAN Lion Explorer semi-luxury inter-city coaches for inter-provincial and regional transport. A first-class national integrated transport system has also been implemented which utilises and integrates the services of the buses with midi-buses from the taxi industry.

The National Transport Call Centre (NTCC) will also commence operations next week. The NTCC will link with the website http://www.2010findyourway.co.za to provide essential support to visitors and all spectators travelling to World Cup matches.

Government has invested more than R40 billion on public transport infrastructure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to ensure that the tournament leaves a rich legacy for our country and continent.
