Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon Nathi Mthethwa, pays tribute to award winning gospel artist Mpho ‘Regalo’ Gangashe
It was with deep sadness that we learned of the fatal car accident of rising gospel superstar Mpho ‘Regalo’ Gangashe recently.
He will be buried in Thohoyandou in Limpopo tomorrow, Saturday 16 May 2015.
What makes the situation worse was that he was with his mother and daughter who also passed on. It is a triple tragedy for the family.
At 29 he was too young to die. This happened at a time when his talent was blossoming. He was emerging as one of the best gospel musician to come out of the country with a bright and promising future.
At the time of his death, he was on his way to Limpopo's inaugural Fame Awards to recognize & celebrate local talent. In fact, on the fateful night he was destined to be awarded the Best Male artist prize.
We offer condolences to his family, friends, fans and music fraternity.
We have no doubt the young man from Makonde Village outside Thohoyandou was an inspirational figure who showed how the arts especially music can change lives.
We believe arts has the power to transform young people's lives by giving them purpose in life and skills that turn them into business men and women.
Thus Regalo, as he popularly known, was an example of this and also a spectacular artist with a magical stage presence.
His most popular song, ‘I Am A Winner’ was loved by all and endeared him to millions of gospel music fans in the country.
We are deeply saddened by the family triple tragedy. But we believe that Regalo’s legacy will live on through his music that nourished the soul of our nation.
May his soul rest in peace.
