The Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa congratulates Khoisan dance group for 1st prize at championship of the world performing arts in Los Angeles
It was with great joy and happiness that we received the news that the Khoisan indigenous dance group Die Nuwe Graskoue Dancers – a traditional Khoisan Riel Dance troupe – has won Gold in the Group Production Competition at the 19th Championship of the World Performing Arts in Los Angeles this week.
They beat France and Philippines to take the first prize.
They are cultural ambassadors that carry the spirit of our indigenous culture that they express through their costumes, movement, costumes, choreography and dance.
We wish to congratulate them on this global achievement that has seen them beat peers to be crowned the winners in this prestigious competition.
In fact, we are proud to see our young, gifted and proudly South African artists take their rightful place to share our culture and heritage with their counterparts from all over the world.
We believe this is a great achievement that draws attention to the potential and power of South African talent.
There is no doubt that Die Nuwe Graskoue Dancers are destined to continue to reflect the soul of our nation and thus make waves in the global arena.
