Minister Nathi Mthethwa congratulates Cassper Nyovest for Filling up the Dome

Minister Nathi Mthethwa congratulates Cassper Nyovest for soldiering on to become the first South African musician to fill the Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg through his own efforts.

“Through his tireless efforts in ensuring that he fills up the Dome, Cassper Nyovest has captured the imagination of all South Africans. He has demonstrated that South African audiences can and do support local acts. This is a victory for Cassper Nyovest and also a triumph for local content.”

“Our youth artists, like Cassper Nyovest, are at the forefront of developing new approaches in attracting and sustaining audiences through ways that bring artists and audiences together to forge new relations. Cassper Nyovest has great creativity, daring and an unstoppable energy that he conveys through his music. It is this unflinching effort in inviting audiences to be part of the accomplishment of a common goal that has singled out Nyovest’s contribution as unique and makes his work part of nation-building and fostering social cohesion.”

“By drawing attention through #FilluptheDome, the message is also clear that local content empowers individuals to sustain their livelihoods and enhance their contribution to the social and economic empowerment of our society. We encourage audiences to continue to support the arts and buy tickets.”

“With the current revision underway of the White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage, we are taking a hard look at the current arts landscape and finding the best ways of increasing support for the arts, expanding the spaces for local content and making the arts accessible to all. Youth arts is a fundamental part of this agenda.”

“We have also made a modest start in building youth leadership through appointing social cohesion youth advocates. We shall engage Cassper Nyovest on how he can assist and come on board in making this a success”, said Minister Mthethwa.
