Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi welcomes the successful conclusion of wage negotiations, as trade unions within the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) have accepted the government’s latest offer of a 5.5% wage increase.
Public servants will receive an above-inflation wage increase of 5.5% for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with increases for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial years tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
“The wage increase, which includes adjustments to the housing allowance, medical aid subsidy, danger allowances, and the police service allowance, underscores the government’s commitment to service delivery. It ensures public servants are well compensated and protected against the rising cost of living while maintaining uninterrupted public services,” said Minister Buthelezi.
“Furthermore, we commend both organized labour and the government for the professionalism displayed throughout the negotiations, which contributed to smooth discussions and sustainable outcomes,” Minister Inkosi Buthelezi added.
The successful conclusion of the wage negotiations also highlights a newfound spirit of cooperation and understanding between the employer and employees, addressing the previously existing lack of trust. This agreement signifies a serious commitment from the employees, who are indeed the engine of the public service, ensuring that they are recognized and valued in their roles. It symbolizes a new era and trajectory for the public sector, fostering a collaborative environment where both parties work together towards common goals. This renewed partnership is essential for enhancing service delivery and reinforcing the stability necessary for a thriving public service that can effectively meet the needs of citizens.
Concluded in record time and just before the start of a new financial year, this three-year wage agreement provides certainty for the government’s budget planning,
offering stability for both public servants and citizens alike.
