Compliance with the Employment Equity law key to doing business with government - Oliphant
The Department of Labour was in the process of amending employment equity (EE) law to ensure that only companies that comply with the law can do business with government, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant told a youth Imbizo in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.
The meeting, which was held at the Ngwelezane community hall, Empangeni, was attended by dozen of potential employers ranging from Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAS), Municipalities and parastatals.
“I urge all employers wanting to do business with government to ensure that they comply with the law,” she said.
The Minister also encouraged youth to register their skills with Department’s Public Employment Services (PES) to ensure that they are included on the data base.
She also said when opportunities come, they needed to be disciplined and committed to the programmes.
The gathering, which is being spearheaded by PES, saw more than 900 youth submitting their CVs which were then captured on the department’s Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) system. The process leads to potential employers matching their needs with available skills.
The Minister’s job training campaign has seen her moving from one place to the other, she was recently in Lusikisiki in Eastern Cape and Vhembe in Limpopo where she delivered the same message.
